Heavyweight champion Tyson Fury has called for more action to be taken against knife violence, after a shocking incident involving his cousin took place early morning on Sunday.
According to the Manchester Evening News, Fury’s cousin, Rico Burton, was stabbed with a knife in a fight outside a bar in Altrincham. Police report that the incident took place shortly after 3 a.m., and resulted in two men being rushed to the hospital.
Fury took to Instagram to state that his “cousin was murdered last night, stabbed in the neck,” as a result of “idiots [carrying] knives.” Fury also implored the UK government to take action against knife crime.
This needs to stop asap, UK government needs to bring higher sentencing for knife crime, it’s a pandemic & you don’t know how bad it is until it’s 1 of your own! Life is very precious & it can be taken away very quick enjoy every moment.
Fury ended his statement by paying his respects to his cousin, asking “the lord god [to grant him] a good place in heaven.” The police have also launched a murder investigation.
This is a heartbreaking tragedy. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Fury, and all of Burton’s friends and family. May he rest in peace.
