Ben Simmons has not been able to provide Brooklyn Nets supporters much to cheer about over the past six months. Since being traded to the team at the deadline, Simmons has consistently missed games because of his physical condition, his mental state, and occasionally even back problems. Simmons underwent back surgery after the season, and ever since then, he has only been healing and awaiting approval from his doctors.
There have been concerns regarding Simmons’ availability because the Nets’ personnel situation is in utter shambles. Fans had hoped to see him on opening night because the Nets are expecting him to perform this year.
Shams Charania of The Athletic claims that Simmons recently received some positive news. Simmons is now able to engage in more intense workouts like three-on-three basketball.
“Simmons has been cleared for three-on-three basketball activities following back surgery in May, and he is on track to be cleared for full five-on-five activities in the coming weeks, league sources say. The Nets and Simmons expect him to be ready for training camp in late September.”
For Nets supporters, the last line should be particularly exciting because it indicates that Simmons will probably get to play on opening night. It is still unclear if Simmons is mentally prepared for that. Stay tuned to Thirsty for more updates.
