Rapper Megan Thee Stallion has been battling her record label since March, 2020. Megan has been trying to free herself from the contract she signed with the independent label. However, over time, the process has turned out to be quite complicated.
Now it seems that Megan has upped the ante in the ongoing legal battle with 1501 Certified Entertainment. According to a Rolling Stone report, the rapper is asking a Texas court to intervene and sever her relationship with the label.
Megan is claiming that her new album, “Traumatize,” fulfils her obligations to the label as per the terms of her “unconscionable” contract. In addition, Megan is also seeking compensation.
While initially the rapper had only sought non-monetary relief in the lawsuit she had filed in February, she is now seeking $1 million in damages in a new amended lawsuit filed last week.
The label, however, is fighting her back on it, claiming that her previous project, “Something for Thee Hotties,” is less than an album, and therefore does not count towards the quota stated in the contract.
The situation certainly seems to be getting increasingly complicated. What’s your take on this story?
