R. Kelly Made $1 Million Offer To Retrieve Incriminating Tape

R. Kelly is spending decades in prison after he was convicted on a slew of horrible crimes that just keep coming. As he continues to face allegations related to his 2008 child pornography trial, R. Kelly’s trial in Chicago goes on. The singer’s former merchandise manager recently testified that Kelly tried to pay $1 million to recover an incriminating tape.

According to Billboard, Charles Freeman testified during the trial that Kelly approached him in an attempt to retrieve the video clip featuring the singer. According to the prosecution, that tape showed Kelly having sex with a 14-year-old girl.

Freeman stated to the jury that Kelly made the $1 million offer in 2001, though Freeman claimed that he pursued the artist and his team for many years to receive his full payment. Freeman claimed in court that when he went to retrieve the tape from a house in Atlanta, he had no idea what was in it. He claimed, however, that later that day, he put the tape into a VHS player.

Freeman, who signed an immunity agreement, was questioned by the prosecution about why it took him so long to give the police the tapes. He explained, “Because the police wasn’t going to pay me a million dollars.”

It was further stated that Derrel McDavid, a co-defendant, and member of Kelly’s team, told him to disrobe and check Kelly’s swimming pool to make sure he wasn’t wearing a wire. He claimed that he eventually removed his shirt before Freeman threw a brown bag containing $100,000 in cash into his car.

Freeman claimed that in either 2002 or 2003, McDavid made an attempt to get him to recover a different recording. Obviously, there is a lot to unpack in this case as the trial carries on. Stay tuned to Thirsty for more updates regarding the case.
