Jack Harlow gained mainstream recognition for “Whats Poppin” in 2020. He also got the role of a lead in White Men Can’t Jump reboot. Harlow collaborated with Drake as well. Now he is making waves at the MTV Video Music Awards, and some fans are not happy about that.
The Kentucky rapper bagged the Song of the Summer award for “First Class,” a track he also performed alongside Fergie at the award ceremony. Harlow went up against BTS’s Jung Kook, Doja Cat, Lizzo, Drake, Charlie Puth, Beyoncé, and others.
The win, however, stirred a new debate on social media as fans accused the 2022 edition of VMAs of being rigged. Some suggested Harlow only won big because he was a co-host at the event.
One fan tweeted out to say, “Jack Harlow winning song of the summer when Beyoncé, Jungkook, Nicki, Drake and Bad Bunny were nominated just proves that vmas are an attendance award bc u want us to believe his fans pulled more votes than armys barbz and bey hive.” Others shared that sentiment in full-force.
The 24-year-old won four awards in total and thanked fans for the support in his speech. Check out some of the reactions below.
