Kim Kardashian founded SKIMS in 2019 and it became an overnight success. The “Keeping Up With The Kardashians” star promotes the brand on social media as well.
The shapewear and loungewear brand boasts ‘solutions for every body.’ The brand is currently embroiled in a lawsuit filed by an irate customer, and finally decided to hit back at the claims.
A woman, Noelle Mahasin Smith, claimed in her suit that SKIMS body tape ripped her skin off. Smith didn’t give additional details but claimed she suffered physical and mental pain after using the product.
According to TMZ, a SKIMS representative said the woman’s claims were baseless because she didn’t buy the product from them in the first place. Rather, the product was ordered through Amazon, who is not an authorized or official retailer of SKIMS product.
“We take feedback from our customers very seriously. Upon further review of this specific complaint, we have discovered that the customer purchased what appears to be fake tape from Amazon, who is not an authorized or official retailer of SKIMS products.
“Unfortunately counterfeit items have become commonplace for the brand and we strongly advise our customers to only purchase from SKIMS or any of our official retail partners which can be found on our website to ensure that they receive authentic products that meet our quality standards.”
A comparison of the products further revealed a huge price difference. A roll of tape and 10 pasties cost Smith $9.99. Also, it didn’t have the SKIMS marking. The same purchase, if ordered through SKIMS, would cost $48.
