Han Solo believed there’s nothin’ quite like a good blaster at your side, and ‘Star Wars’ fans seem to agree. The prop gun that Harrison Ford used in his role of Han Solo in the 1977 film Star Wars sold for over $1 million at an auction last week.
The iconic ‘blaster,’ a converted Mauser pistol modified to only shoot blanks, is the last of three created for use in the film. According to the Daily Mail, the event’s organizer, Rock Island Auction, predicted that the DL-44 Heavy Blaster Pistol would bring in a bid of about $500,000. Nevertheless, an avid fan exceeded their projections at $1,057,000 to win.
Ford, who brought the character Han Solo to life in the now titled Star Wars: Episode IV- A New Hope, wielded the prop throughout the entire film. It became a coveted piece of memorabilia for avid fans of the franchise.
The blaster pistol is a hand-held gun used by civilians and the military in the fictional galaxy. Instead of firing bullets, the blaster fires bolts, which are a series of contiguous light-based energy bursts.
Memorabilia from the Star Wars franchise is considered among the most sought after and valuable in the collector’s space. You can check out a few snaps of the prop below. Stay tuned to Thirsty for further updates.
