M.I.A is a fearless rapper who doesn’t think twice before saying anything. Fans despise the rapper’s tendency, and it has even backfired on her. Recently, M.I.A. threatened to leak Doja Cat and Nicki Minaj collabs, claiming that she waited two years for the verses.
M.I.A. appears to be growing impatient as the release of her MATA album approaches. The album is the British rapper’s first since 2016’s AIM, and she planned to release it herself if it doesn’t drop before September.
The rapper took to her Instagram story on Tuesday, August 30th to deliver some great news regarding her collaboration. She will be collaborating with two of the biggest stars in rap right now, but her message to fans wasn’t all positive.
“Coming soon I promise. I had to wait two years for a Doja Cat verse… Then a Nicki one… Then a… Nevermind. If MATA isn’t out [in] September I will leak it myself.”
M.I.A. has made a comeback in recent weeks with songs like “Popular” and “The One,” both of which have generated a lot of hype for the “Bad Girls” singer.
According to Uproxx, this isn’t the first time the Hounslow-born singer has threatened to release her own music. M.I.A. and her record label Interscope have feuded in the past, most notably over her AIM album, which was mostly missed in the mainstream owing to internal legal concerns surrounding the corporation.
MATA will be M.I.A.’s debut release on Island Records as part of their new collaboration. Doja Cat and Nicki Minaj, on the other hand, have yet remained silent on the threat. Let’s see how they respond. Stay tuned to Thirsty for more information.
