Olivia Wilde’s second feature film as a director is ‘Don’t Worry Darling.’ It follows her well-received teen comedy Booksmart from 2019. Olivia was recently asked about Florence Pugh’s absence at the Don’t Worry Darling press conference at the 2022 Venice Film Festival, and a question regarding Shia LaBeouf was cut short by the moderator.
Olivia steered clear of a question concerning Shia LaBeouf at the Don’t Worry Darling press conference at the Venice Film Festival. She was also asked to “clear the air” regarding a rumored dispute with Florence Pugh. She appeared alongside Chris Pine, Harry Styles, and Gemma Chan.
One reporter complimented the performances and said it was a “shame” Pugh was absent. Wilde responded by stating she is grateful and honored that Florence is the lead in her film.
Can you just clear the air and address if there’s been a falling out there and if so why? Because it’s something that people are discussing.
Florence is a force, and we are so grateful that she’s able to make it tonight despite being in production on Dune. I know, as a director, how disruptive it is to lose an actor even for a day, so I’m very grateful to her, to Denis Villeneuve for helping us. And we’re really thrilled we’ll get to celebrate her work tonight. I can’t say enough how honored I am to have her as our lead. She’s amazing in the film.
As for all the endless tabloid gossip and all the noise out there, I mean, the internet feeds itself. I don’t feel the need to contribute. It’s sufficiently well nourished.
The following question was cut short by moderator Giulia D’Agnolo Vallan after a journalist from The Hollywood Reporter inquired about “the noise” surrounding the film, particularly about LaBeouf’s exit from the project. “I think this question has been answered when she talked about the internet,” said Vallan, moving on to the next question.
As previously reported, Olivia earlier stated that she fired Shia from the film ‘Don’t Worry Darling.’ However, Shia recently came forward to explain and clarify that he left on his own. Styles eventually landed the part that LaBeouf was earlier set to play opposite Pugh.
Don’t Worry Darling will be released in theatres on September 23rd. Let’s see how things proceed. To get the latest updates, keep an eye on Thirsty.
