Michael Jackson Allegedly Took Sleeping Pills Because He Was Too ‘Excited’ About Touring

Michael Jackson was a music industry phenomenon who captivated millions of hearts through his performance. His sudden death was not expected, and there was a lot to unpack. Recently, Akon just made a surprising disclosure that may shock his fans. Akon claimed that Michael Jackson used to take pills to improve his performance.

Akon became close friends with Michael Jackson near the end of his life and witnessed firsthand how dedicated he was to his work. During his time with Jackson, the “Smack That” singer observed him staying up for weeks at a stretch, preparing for his final show residency, This Is It.

Akon recently told The Sun that Michael’s passion for his career was the reason the pop star began using medications in the first place. Jackson died after an overdose of the anesthetic Propofol and benzodiazepines in 2009. According to the “Mr. Lonely” singer, Jackson was too excited to go to London.

“He was so happy and excited that he was about to go to London and lock these 50 dates in and remind the world who he was and what his value was to pop music. He didn’t even sleep. That is why he was taking sleeping pills because he was too damn excited.”

Akon further revealed that the Thriller star wanted to give fans a once-in-a-lifetime experience with his final show. The Grammy Award-winning vocalist went on to say that when you love your art as much as Michael did, it’s difficult to get any rest.

“He would be up for weeks at a time thinking about how he wanted everybody to have the most amazing experience, he wanted to create something that was going to be talked about for centuries. You are going to need help to get sleep. Because your mind is constantly moving and your energy and your flow [are] electric to the point where you cannot turn it off.”

This isn’t the first time Akon has defended his peers. He defended Kanye West last month after he faced fire for selling Yeezy items in trash bags.

“Personally, I would tell those same people to take the clothes they’re not wearing and go give it to the homeless. You do something.”
