Britney Spears is quite well known for making bold statements. This penchant for the Toxic singer has often backfired on her, but she has not backed down from creating issues. Recently, it appears that the same situation occurred; Britney Spears was chastised for ‘body-shaming’ dancers with an ‘offensive’ message.
Spears is under fire for alleged body-shaming Christina Aguilera’s dancers. The superstar posted on Instagram on Monday; her post was accompanied by a Rodney Dangerfield quote. Her post included a statement attributed to Rodney Dangerfield.
“I wish I could have chosen the nannies for my children … my dancers … I mean if I had Christina Aguilera’s dancers I would have looked extremely small 💃💃💃… I mean why not talk about it ??”
“I found there was only one way to look thin: hang out with fat people.”
Unpacking her issues from her conservatorship days, Spears went on to state that her confidence may have benefited from “[choosing] where I lived, ate, who I called on the phone, dated, and who was on stage with me!!!” During her estranged father, Jamie Spears’, nearly 14-year legal arrangement, the singer had a four-year Las Vegas residency and embarked on various globe tours.
Meanwhile, Aguilera went on multiple tours during Britney’s Sin City stay and eventually took over the Planet Hollywood residency once her longtime pop rival left. Fans chastised Britney for comparing the physiques of her dancers to those of Christina Aguilera.
“Britney… body shaming is out,” one person wrote. “Oh honey, delete this while you have time,” a follower urged. Someone else called Britney’s post “so terrible,” adding, “There is so much more to life than looking thin.” Another person added, “This is so f*cking offensive Britney.”
Britney, who stated in a since-deleted voice mail that she doesn’t mind offending others because she has felt “offended” her entire life, is unconcerned by any criticism. Britney concluded her Monday message by remembering her tough time.
“It’s hard sometimes now I see how much of my womanhood was stripped away at that time and every person sat back and didn’t say a thing !!! Anyways … I will be here talking bout things people NEVER talked about 🙄🙄🙄 !!!”
In a March Instagram post, Britney regretted being the “heavy girl” on stage, claiming it “wasn’t fun” and rather “humiliating.” This isn’t the first time Britney has made a social media reference to Aguilera. She dragged her former “All New Mickey Mouse Club” co-star in November 2021 for remaining silent about her conservatorship difficulties. Britney wrote over a clip of Aguilera’s red carpet snub at the 2021 Latin Grammy Awards.
“I love and adore everyone who supported me … but refusing to speak when you know the truth, is equivalent to a lie!!!”
“13 years being in a corrupt abusive system yet why is such a hard topic for people to talk about??? I’m the one who went through it!!! All the supporters who spoke up and supported me thank you … Yes I do matter!”
Reporters at the awards presentation asked Aguilera if she “had any communication” with Britney in the days following the conservatorship’s termination. Subsequently, Aguilera while promoting her Spanish EP, “La Fuerza.” with Enrique Santos expressed public support for Britney in January, two months after her conservatorship was eventually lifted.
“No, I’m sorry, we’re not doing that tonight, thank you though, bye!”
“I can’t. But I’m happy for her!”
“I will just say what I do feel comfortable saying, as I’ve said before actually and stated: that I couldn’t be happier for her.”
“Every woman deserves to feel empowered and to own that for themselves however they see fit.”
Britney’s fans are bashing her, saying they didn’t expect this from The Toxic singer. What are your thoughts on this debate? Let us know in the comments. Stay tuned to Thirsty for more updates.
