The annual BET Hip Hop Awards are just around the corner. Shortly after it was announced that Fat Joe would host the 2022 event, the list of nominees was also released. It’s safe to say that many social media users were eager to show their displeasure with this announcement.
Drake is in the lead this year with 14 nominations. He is followed by Kanye West with 10, and Kendrick Lamar, who received nine of his own after the success of his eagerly anticipated Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers album. The category that seems to be causing the greatest consternation is Lyricist Of The Year.
Baby Keem, Benny The Butcher, Drake, J. Cole, Jack Harlow, JAY-Z, and Kendrick Lamar are all on the list for 2022 and are all undoubtedly talented artists in their own right. However, some could argue that they are not all worthy of honor or even in the same category. Twitter erupted in rage over the fact that names like Joey Bada$$, Pusha T, and JID didn’t make it on the list.
While Twitter users appear to approve of the placement of Butcher, Cole, Hov, and K-Dot, many have been making fun of BET for including Harlow, Keem, and even Drizzy with such heavyweights. In one post, it was claimed that submitting The Melodic Blue artist for the prize was equivalent to nominating his cousin Lamar twice.
In another tweet, it was suggested that Pusha T, Black Thought, Joey Bada$$, Joey Bada$$, Lupe Fiasco, and Denzel Curry would make better choices. Check out more Twitter reactions below, and visit the page to see the whole list of 2022 BET Hip-Hop Awards nominees.
