Grant Gustin is best known for his role as Barry Allen/The Flash on The CW’s ‘The Flash,’ which is part of the Arrowverse television franchise. He is also well known for his role as Sebastian Smythe in the Fox series Glee. Grant recently posted an emotional statement on Instagram before last season.
Gustin delivered an emotional statement before the start of production on season 9, the series’ last season. The CW’s Arrowverse franchise, which celebrates its tenth anniversary in October, had a huge shake-up in 2022. The CW canceled Batwoman and Legends of Tomorrow, as well as the upcoming DC TV series Naomi, among a slew of cancellations.
While still connected to the Arrowverse, the Superman & Lois season 2 finale established the show as taking place on a different Earth than Earth-Prime. Even though the franchise will return in 2023, the slate will be much lighter the following year. In the case of The Flash, the popular series was renewed for season 9, which was expected to be the final season. The CW officially confirmed in August 2022 that the Scarlet Speedster’s run will end in 2023.
The Flash season 9 will only contain 13 episodes, unlike previous seasons, with Gustin returning as the Arrowverse hero for one more year. Candice Patton as Iris West-Allen, Danielle Panabaker as Caitlin Snow, Kayla Compton as Allegra Garcia, Brandon McKnight as Chester P. Runk, and Dani Nicolet as Cecile Horton are among the returning cast members. Gustin sent an emotional message on Instagram just before the start of filming for The Flash season 9.
While the 32-year-old Arrowverse actor told his fans that he will have more to say during The Flash’s last season, Gustin took the opportunity to thank everyone who has been a part of his journey on the show, as well as shared many photographs from season 1.
Tomorrow we start filming the final season of The Flash. I’ll save the long, emotional captions for later in the season, but to say I’m grateful for this journey and the growth it’s provided me in so many different ways would be a gross understatement. Thankful to everyone who helped give me this opportunity and all the fans of the show that have showed me and anyone that’s been a part of The Flash love along the way. Here’s a bit of a photo dump from my first year on the show.
The Flash season 9 will conclude with 184 episodes, making it the Arrowverse’s longest-running series. As bittersweet as Gustin’s statement is, it’s still great to see that The Flash season 9 will allow the show to conclude on its own terms. To get the latest updates, keep an eye on Thirsty.
