Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav’s business philosophy says that movies are intended for the theater, not streaming. Keeping in line with that belief, the originally conceived Steven Soderbergh-directed HBO Max threequel Magic Mike’s Last Dance will arrive in theaters on February 10, 2023, which is Super Bowl weekend.
The actor and producer of the film, Channing Tatum has had a number of films that have come out around Valentine’s Day and in the middle of February, including this year’s Dog, which debuted at $14.9 million and ended up grossing $61.8 million.
Tatum’s The Vow was a tremendous hit in 2012 opening to $41.2M and a domestic total of $125 million and just under $200M worldwide. In addition, he had the Chris Pine and Reese Witherspoon romantic action movie This Means War, which earned $17.4 million in its first three days, $54.7 million domestically, and over $101 million worldwide.
The franchise gave rise to the popular stage production Magic Mike Live. It began in Las Vegas and swiftly spread throughout the country as well as abroad to cities like London, Berlin, and Australia.
Salma Hayek, Caitlin Gerard, and Gavin Spokes are also set to appear in the threequel. Gregory Jacobs, who directed the 2015 hit Magic Mike XXL, is back to produce alongside Carolin, Nick Wechsler, and Peter Kiernan. Stay tuned to Thirsty for more updates.
