Jay-Z is widely acknowledged as one of the most influential artists in the hip-hop industry. Hov is also one of the world’s best-selling musicians, having sold more than 140 million records worldwide. Jay-Z is also recognized for his public service, and one of his latest initiatives resulted in the arrest of one of the corrupt officers.
In 2021, Jay-Z’s ROC filed a lawsuit alleging corruption inside the Kansas City Police Department. A high-profile cop caught up in the incident has now been indicted by a grand jury, nearly a year later. The United States Justice Department indicted former detective Roger Golubski on Thursday, September 15, for sexually assaulting a pair of women on multiple occasions from 1998 to 2002 while acting “under the color of law.”
“We continue to stand in solidarity alongside the people of Kansas City, Kansas who have been patiently for justice and accountability,” said Team ROC managing director Dania Diaz in a statement.
The arrest of Roger Golubski is a significant step toward creating a safer community and we applaud the Department of Justice for their commitment, diligence and thorough work on this investigation.
Team ROC filed a lawsuit against the Kansas City Police Department for corruption and misconduct inside the organization. In addition, the social advocacy group published an op-ed in the Washington Post openly criticizing the police department for “racism and corruption,” which it said, “led to one of the worst examples of abuse of power in U.S. history.”
We are committed to holding these so-called public servants accountable for alleged rampant acts of brutality and exploitation and request a meeting with the DOJ to discuss our findings — findings we hope will move you to act. These allegations require the urgency that the Kansas City, Kansas community deserves.
Golubski was named in the lawsuit as LaMonte McIntyre, who was wrongfully convicted of murder and spent almost two decades in jail for it. Golubski allegedly attempted to force McIntyre’s mother into performing sexual acts on him, and when she refused, the disgraced cop falsely accused LaMonte of murder. According to the indictment, Golubski’s actions included sexual abuse and kidnapping.
Golubski will face life in prison if convicted. Meanwhile, JAY-Z and Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey recently bestowed more financial resources on students who graduated from their Bitcoin Academy. Dorsey took to Twitter earlier this month to reveal that he and Hov had offered $1,000 in digital currency to each graduate at the school’s graduation ceremony earlier that night.
Jay-Z’s good work will be rewarded in the future. Let’s wait and see what more the musical icon has in store for us. To get the latest updates, keep an eye on Thirsty.
