Woody Allen is an Academy Award-winning film director, writer, actor, and comedian whose career spans more than six decades. He began writing for television in the 1950s, primarily for Your Show of Shows (1950-1954), where he worked with Mel Brooks, Carl Reiner, Larry Gelbart, and Neil Simon. Woody recently announced his retirement.

Woody Allen has announced his retirement from the film industry. While working on his 50th film in Europe, Woody told the Spanish newspaper La Vanguardia that he planned to retire from filmmaking and devote more time to writing in his later years. What will now be his final film is set in Paris and will be shot entirely in French in a couple of weeks.

Allen described his future picture as “exciting, dramatic, and also very sinister,” similar to “Match Point.” Allen has completed his sixth collection of humor pieces, “Zero Gravity,” which will be published by Alianza in Spain on September 27. In the U.S., it was published by Arcade and distributed by Simon & Schuster.

Allen has started filming more frequently in Europe since his support in the United States has plunged as a result of the abuse allegations leveled against him. He opened the San Sebastian Film Festival in 2020 with “Rifkin’s Festival,” a film shot in and around the tony city of San Sebastian. His relationship with the Basque provincial capital’s festival dates back to 2004, when he premiered “Melinda & Melinda,” and again in 2008 when he premiered “Vicky Cristina Barcelona.”

Amazon Studios shelved his previous film “A Rainy Day in New York” after accusing Allen of “sabotaging” the film’s future with statements about his daughter Dylan Farrow’s abuse allegations. He sued them for $68 million, alleging breach of contract. The disagreement was eventually settled out of court.

Allen has also had problems with publishing houses. Following staff protests, Hachette canceled the publication of his memoir “Apropos of Nothing,” but it was taken up by another publisher, Arcade. Let’s see what the future has in store for him. To get the latest updates, keep an eye on Thirsty.
