Kanye West established himself as a true genius in the eyes of many followers as both a businessman and an artist. It’s difficult to dispute that because West has repeatedly demonstrated why he’s so successful. However, it appears that his representatives are working behind his back since Kanye recently stated that his music catalog is being sold without his permission.
Kanye West believes his music collection is being sold without his permission. The “Donda” singer took to Instagram on Tuesday to refute Billboard’s claim that his “camp” has been “quietly and intermittently” shopping his publishing catalog. According to the outlet, West’s representatives met secretly with prospective buyers to “explore what kind of valuation” his discography is worth, which is estimated to be over $175 million.
“Just like Taylor Swift… my publishing is being put up for my sale without my knowledge. Not for sale,” the 24-time Grammy Award winner wrote on his Instagram Story. Swift’s famous feud with ex-manager Scooter Braun, who sold her masters from the Big Machine Label Group for a reported $300 million, was referenced by the rapper. As a result, the 11-time Grammy winner is re-recording her albums.
If West takes a similar route, it will be a far more difficult endeavor because he will need to re-clear the hundreds of samples that his many tracks include. The news follows West’s admission that he has never read a book in his life. To get the latest updates, keep an eye on Thirsty.
