DaBaby has maintained a low profile for most of the year, as much as a guy like him can. However, the internet went crazy after he released his album Baby on Baby 2, revealing information indicating a sexual interaction between him and Megan Thee Stallion.
While people on social media criticized the rapper’s track, a female artist alleged that it was originally hers. According to Toronto-based musician and composer Layla Hendryx, the song’s title and melody were similar to those of one of her unreleased songs.
“The whole flow for the hook is stolen from me… One, it was done so sheisty, and two, the fact that he used the song to basically diss another black woman while you’re stealing from another black woman is just wild to me.”
Hendryx stated that he planned to sue the musician, claiming, “I do not want to write for DaBaby. I would’ve said no to begin with. Just let me have the choice with my own art.”
The rapper stated in the song “Boogeyman”, “You play with me that sh*t was childish/The day before she said that Tory Lanez shot her, I was f**kin on Megan Thee Stallion/Waited to say that sh*t on my next album/Hit it the day before too/But I kept it player, I ain’t say nothing ’bout it.” DaBaby also targeted Megan’s boyfriend, Pardison Fontaine. “Had her pretty boy, boyfriend tweeting me, ready to die ’bout the b*tch like a coward.”
DaBaby has not publicly spoken about this situation. We will have to see if he does, and whether he makes this right. You can listen to both records here. Also, keep an eye on Thirsty for the latest updates.
