Jeffrey Dahmer Victims’ Memorial Plan Worries Milwaukee Officials

“Dahmer-Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story,” is Netflix’s latest crime drama series based on one of the most horrifying serial killers in American history, Jeffrey Dahmer, better known as the Milwaukee Cannibal. There are currently discussions about how to best honor his victims. However, Milwaukee officials are worried that a physical memorial site would draw the wrong crowds.

Following the release of the controversy-filled new Netflix series, there is a surge of public support for Milwaukee to create a memorial for Dahmer’s victims. While Mayor Cavalier Johnson supports the idea, TMZ has learned he’s concerned that a memorial may become a destination for Dahmer fans. It’s unbelievable and creepy, but they do exist.

According to Jeff Fleming, the mayor’s communications director, who spoke to TMZ, Mayor Johnson wants to do something to honor the families of the victims, but Milwaukee doesn’t want to become a “ghoulish destination for troubled fans” searching for any excuse to glorify Dahmer. The concern is adding to the trauma experienced by the victims’ families.

It’s a common concern in Milwaukee, where Dahmer was born, lived, and committed many of his killings, primarily in an apartment building that is now a vacant lot. According to reports, Milwaukee has made a concerted effort over the years to essentially erase any links to Dahmer. All of his possessions were set afire, and even the factory where he worked was destroyed.

Mayor Johnson plans to honor the victims and intends to work with their families to make it happen, however, this is all very early on. The mayor’s office claims that the majority of discussion about a possible memorial is coming from the public and not the relatives of the victims.

Some residents of the neighborhood think Milwaukee hasn’t agreed to a memorial because there is allegedly homophobia related to the case. Fleming, who at the time covered the Dahmer case, claims that the delay is more about giving the community time to heal. Stay tuned to Thirsty for more updates.
