Disgraced singer R. Kelly has been found guilty of a multitude of sex crimes, against several victims, over decades. The singer has, rightfully, been sentenced to prison. However, that is not the entirety of his sentence.
During a restitution hearing that took place on Wednesday, TMZ reports that a judge gave the verdict that R. Kelly will also have to financially compensate some his victims, by paying for their medical treatment as well as the treatment for the psychological trauma.
For one specific victim, identified as “Jane,” the judge ordered R. Kelly to pay a sum of approximately $300,000. This amount is to be used to pay for the victim’s herpes treatment, as well as psychological care.
A similar decision has been made in the case of another victim, identified as “Stephanie.” However, an exact amount has not been decided upon yet, although the judge will be circling back to the issue later.
A third victim, named “Sonja,” however, was denied restitution. While no amount of money can undo the tremendous damage that R. Kelly has caused, financial restitution is definitely a positive step towards justice.
