The reboot of Blade for the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been full of problems from the start. Earlier in the week director Bassam Tariq left the project and to make matters worse, the script is being overhauled.
According to The Direct, Marvel Studios recruited a new writer for the Mahershala Ali-led superhero film. The source of the outlet states that Moon Knight writer Beau DeMayo has been selected to rewrite the whole script, taking over Stacy Osei-Kuffour’s previous work on the project.
It’s currently unknown if the changes will affect the theatrical release date of November 3rd, 2023, Blade was first announced by Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige at San Diego Comic-Con in 2019, with Oscar-winner Mahershala Ali making a surprise appearance at the panel.
Ali, who previously starred as Cottonmouth in Netflix’s MCU adjacent series Luke Cage, confirmed at the time that he was the one who first approached the studio about taking on the titular heroic vampire. The character was first famously portrayed by Wesley Snipes, who has already voiced his support for Ali following the announcement.
Thirsty will bring updates about the Blade MCU project when available. Should be interesting.
