Dwayne Wade Limits Daughter Zaya’s Instagram Comments To Protect Her ‘Mental Health’

Dwyane Wade takes great pride in being a father. The father of four is not afraid to publicly defend and protect his kids. When it comes to his daughter, Zaya Wade, the three-time NBA champion recently went to great lengths to ensure she feels comfortable and secure as she navigates her gender journey.

Wade filed a court motion last month to legally change Zaya’s gender and name from Zion Malachi Airamis Wade to Zaya Malachi Airamis Wade. The Miami Heat legend filed court documents, claiming “full authority” to file the petition without the consent of Zaya’s mother, Siohvaughn Funches. However, the court did issue Funches a courtesy notice of Wade’s petition.

The 15-year-old recently made news after flaunting her new long, flowing tresses in a Tiffany & Co. campaign. She posted the breathtaking photos to her Instagram account with the caption, “Dreams become reality.” While celebrities and fans alike gushed about the photo on social media, several people noticed that some of the comments under Zaya’s photo had been blocked.

Wade took to Twitter to clarify his family’s decision to limit her comment section when one fan questioned it. “For Zaya’s mental health and privacy we’ve decided not to allow the hate into her comments,” he tweeted.

The heartwarming post comes just days after the 40-year-old father gushed over his daughter’s model-like Tiffany & Co. images in the comment area, filling it with heart-eye emojis. Wade also stated at a summit in June that he is concerned for his daughter’s safety.

As blessed as it is for my daughter to have parents who can support her, I’m still afraid every moment she leaves the house. And not just because of gun violence, but because of the way people perceive her in this world.
