Kanye West opened the YZYSZN9 fashion show by unveiling “White Lives Matter” T-shirts, much to the shock of the audience. As a result, the topic quickly became trending on Twitter and the rapper drew a lot of criticism. Ye recently doubled down on the controversial clothing and reinforced his stance.
Ye took to Instagram on Wednesday to respond to the backlash and chose to stand by it. For the Chicago-native rapper the message behind his “White Lives Matter” shirt is pretty straightforward. He says that white lives do matter.
Here’s my latest response when people ask me why I made a tee that says white lives matter… THEY DO
The rapper also called Black Lives Matter a scam further intensifying the controversy. Several celebrities including his ex-wife, Kim Kardashian have expressed their disgust over the rapper’s recent antics. However, he also received positive feedback from some industry big shots.
As noted earlier, Kanye wore the “White Lives Matter” shirt during his Yeezy Season 9 fashion show in Paris, France. The shirts featuring this controversial statement are part of the latest Yeezy collection, unveiled on Monday, October 3.
Model Selah Marley, the child of Lauryn Hill and Rohan Marley is on Ye’s side as well. She wore her own “White Lives Matter” shirt to support the Grammy-winning rapper’s message. Check out Ye’s post below.
