Lizzo is one of the most social media-savvy artists out there. The musician has made a name for herself as one of the best performers out there. Recently, Kanye West made statements regarding her weight during his appearance on Tucker Carlson’s show this week. However, Lizzo appeared to hit back at Ye for his comments at a recent concert.
In case you missed it, Kanye said of Lizzo to Tucker Carlson on Fox News, “When Lizzo loses 10 pounds and announces it, the bots … on Instagram, they attack her losing weight, because the media wants to put out a perception that being overweight is the new goal when it’s actually unhealthy. It’s demonic.”
The singer addressed it during a break in her performance on Friday at Toronto’s Scotiabank Arena. According to her, every American has something negative to say about her, yet she sticks to her own knitting.
“I feel like everyone in America got my fucking name in their fucking mouth for no fucking reason. I’m meddling in my thick black beautiful business.”
Lizzo then asked the audience if she could stay in Toronto, adding, “Who can I marry for that dual citizenship?” and got a good laugh. She avoided explicitly mentioning Kanye, which is a move she also used when Aries Spears disparaged her. She didn’t actually criticize him there either, just saying that she would let her success speak for itself despite people asking her to “clap back.”
Kanye used Lizzo to highlight how people were allegedly criticizing the idea of improving oneself through weight loss, which he called “demonic” and the “genocide of the Black race.” He didn’t go into more detail, but Lizzo is obviously in disagreement.
