Elon Musk is following the steps of other stars by introducing his own perfume. Despite having a quite awful name “Burnt Hair,” the fragrance is already a hit.
On Tuesday, the billionaire took to Twitter to make the announcement of his new perfume, named “Burnt Hair”. The Tesla founder called it “the finest fragrance on Earth.”
“With a name like mine, getting into the fragrance business was inevitable – why did I even fight it for so long!?”
“Burnt Hair,” produced by Musk’s Boring Company, costs $100 a bottle, shipping in early 2023, and is marketed as “the essence of repugnant desire.” The website of The Boring Company promises that it will be “just like leaning over a candle at the dinner table, but without all the hard work.”
However, early on Wednesday, Musk tweeted that he had sold 10,000 bottles of the fragrance, suggesting that the description hadn’t discouraged buyers. “Doesn’t get more lit than this!” he joked.
The current bio for Musk on Twitter is “Perfume Salesman.” However, not everyone is on board with the billionaire’s new perfume; one critic joked, “If I wanted Burnt Hair, I’d just go on a ride in a Tesla.” While another user tweeted, “Nothing says, ‘I haven’t touched a woman in years’ like buying Elon Musk’s burnt hair perfume. I’m pretty sure he’s making fun of you guys at this point to see what ridiculous thing he can get you to buy.”
This is not Musk’s first venture into non-automotive consumer goods. In 2018, he made headlines for selling flamethrowers through The Boring Company, which he believed would “revolutionize barbecues.” And in 2020, he released satin “short shorts,” which were immediately sold out in minutes.
