Ginuwine is an R&B singer, songwriter, dancer, and actor. He has a number of multi-platinum and platinum-selling albums and singles to his name, and he rose to prominence as one of R&B’s top musicians in the late 1990s and early 2000s. He may be a great singer, but it appears that a magic show is not his cup of tea.
DM reports that Ginuwine passed out while performing a magic trick with famed performer Criss Angel. The “Pony” singer was rehearsing for The CW’s “Magic With the Stars” earlier this week when he lost consciousness during an underwater stunt. The R&B artist is shown holding his breath while submerged underwater in a glass cube before slamming the sides to signal his distress in video footage obtained by the outlet.
Staffers surrounding the cube immediately pull the 51-year-old “Differences” crooner out of the box and attempt to calm him down before he passes out. According to a source, an ambulance was called and Ginuwine, whose real name is Elgin Baylor Lumpkin, was carried away unconscious. According to the outlet, he later made a full recovery.
It all happened so fast, it was like he got tapped out in a fight. In the show he was trying to overcome his fear of being under water as he couldn’t hold his breath for longer than 15 seconds before trying the stunt out.
Although he failed in rehearsals, he still went ahead with the stunt on the show and everyone was in tears.
Angel shared a “Magic With the Stars” teaser on Instagram on Tuesday. On that Ginuwine commented, “My folks.” It’s unclear whether he said anything before or after the accident.
“Magic With the Stars,” which is set to premiere on October 22, has celebrities training in Las Vegas with Angel, 54, to create magic performances. Angel will join as a judge on the new show with Loni Love and magician Lance Burton. To get the latest updates, keep an eye on Thirsty.
