Bill Murray is one of the most recognizable and likeable stars in Hollywood. The actor has given hits like “Ghostbusters” and “Rock the Kasbah.” Now, a former co-star Rob Schneider has claimed Murray ‘hated’ SNL cast members including Adam Sandler and Chris Farley when he co-hosted the show in the 90s.
DailyMail reported that during an appearance on SiriusXM’s Faction Talk on Thursday, SNL alum Rob, 58, claimed the 72-year-old Groundhog Day actor had a “naked rage” toward the group and added that he “absolutely hated us.” Murray was a member of SNL’s main cast from 1977 to 1989, although he came back to guest host the show five times from 1981 to 1999.
When Murray served as the show’s emcee in 1993, he shared the stage with actors Rob, Adam, and the late Chris Farley. While on the podcast Schneider said, “He was super nice to fans, he wasn’t very nice to us.” He added that Murray “really hated” Adam Sandler, surmising that he “couldn’t get into the groove” of the actor’s skits.
“Sandler was just committed to it, and just like, as soon as he would get on, you could see the audience just ate him up.”
Rob also claimed that Murray detested Chris Farley’s hedonistic lifestyle and that he hated the actor “with a passion, like he was just seething looking at him.” Chris struggled with substance misuse throughout his life and passed away in 1997 at the age of 33.
“I want to believe that it’s because Chris thought it was cool to be Belushi, who [was] his friend who he saw die [in 1982], that he thought it was cool to be that out of control. That’s my interpretation, but I don’t really know.”
Schneider concluded by saying Murray “hated me less because he’s my hero.” This comes after Murray was recently hit with accusations of inappropriate sexual behavior to a female staffer earlier this year, as well as purported bullying on set. Details regarding the incident are still scarce. Stay tuned to Thirsty for further updates.
