Randy Orton had a successful WWE career, which included multiple cameos in video games too. Over the course of his career, the WWE superstar has amassed millions of fans. Recently, former WWE Superstar Trevor Murdoch recalled getting into a real-life fight with a fan in Ireland to save Randy Orton’s life.
Murdoch signed with WWE in 2005 after competing in various organizations for a few years. The now 42-year-old worked for the Stamford-based organization for nearly three years, winning the World Tag Team Championship three times with Lance Cade. Nonetheless, the business terminated his employment in July 2008.
Murdoch told Steve Fall on NBC Sports Boston about getting arrested with his tag team partner in Belfast, Ireland. The two were in their hotel bar with numerous other superstars, including an injured Randy Orton, when a fan approached The Viper, who was then the world title, for an autograph. Although Orton signed a piece of paper for the WWE fan, the latter refused to leave before The Viper signed something else for him,
“The guy asked Randy to sign something else. And Randy says, ‘hey man, I’m with my friends, I’ve signed your paper, just please leave us alone and let us go about our business. And this fan just turned irate, just instant bipolar disorder I guess, but I mean, ‘who the hell are you,’ start screaming at Randy, ‘we pay for your ticket. We’re the reason you’re so popular.’ Really just being aggressive with him.”
Despite the fact that security intervened and led the fan out, Orton returned to The Viper 20 minutes later, seeking for another signature. As Orton begged the fan to leave him alone, the fan became hostile once more, prompting security to take him away and inform Orton and his companions that he had left the hotel.
As the bar closed down, all of the WWE Superstars went to their rooms. What Orton did not expect was for the fan to wait for him in the foyer and assault him from behind. Murdoch recalled, “[The fan] came running around, and he was going to hit Randy from behind. Randy turned and saw him coming and yelled Murdoch.” He further said,
(…) I was drunk (…) I see a boy coming, I just turn around just (punch). Just smoke him right in the face. Another guy comes walking at me, and he goes to start taking his jacket off, and he got that jacket around his elbows, boy that was my shot (punch). What I didn’t know was that this gentleman the guy that had been bothering Randy all night was part of an Irish wedding reception, and they were all down in the lobby. After I punched the second guy I find myself in a half moon of probably about 25 Irishmen (…) they were ready to kick my ass.”
Fortunately for Murdoch, Cade, who was walking ahead, noticed what had happened and raced to his tag team partner’s aid. He knocked down four men before sprinting to the elevator with Murdoch as the other Irishmen pursued them. Despite the fact that they arrived safely at their accommodation, they subsequently received a call from Arn Anderson notifying them that they were being detained.
After getting arrested, the Irish police took Trevor Murdoch and Lance Cade to a room where they surprisingly served them coffee and took photos with the then-World Tag Team Champions. You can check out the interview below. Stay tuned to Thirsty for further updates.
