Netflix recently released their biographical drama about serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer, which has garnered a lot of attention. The Ryan Murphy-produced Netflix series now has the best premiere week since May’s ‘Stranger Things.’
Netflix’s Jeffrey Dahmer limited series had a huge first week. It came in as one of the 10 leading titles since Nielsen began tracking streaming viewing. Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story received 3.66 billion minutes of viewing time during the week of September 19-25, when it premiered on September 21.
This is the tenth-highest ranking of any title since Nielsen started monitoring streaming minutes in 2020. Stranger Things has five of the top ten spots, while Tiger King and Ozark each have two. Dahmer’s debut is also the biggest premiere week for any streaming show since Stranger Things’ fourth season premiered in late May, racking over 5.14 billion minutes.
The Nielsen figures aren’t surprising, given that the show was Netflix’s second-biggest English-language series ever in its first four weeks of release. In other rankings, the Star Wars series Andor had a solid start for Disney+, with 624 million minutes of viewing for its first three episodes, falling short of Obi-Wan Kenobi’s 1 billion-plus minute debut in May but ahead of The Book of Boba Fett’s 389 million-minute debut in December 2021, albeit with a single episode.
House of the Dragon passed Prime Video’s Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power for the first time, tallying 1.01 billion minutes on HBO Max (that figure does not include linear viewing on the HBO cable channels) and also passed Prime Video’s Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, which remained relatively stable at 977 million minutes (vs. 988 million a week earlier). Nielsen’s streaming ratings only include TV viewing and do not include time spent on computers or mobile devices.
The ratings only include Apple TV+, Disney+, HBO Max, Hulu, Netflix, and Prime Video, and do not include audiences from other countries. The top streaming series according to Nielsen from September 19 to September 25 are listed below. To get the latest updates, keep an eye on Thirsty.
