Matthew Perry rose to prominence as Chandler Bing on Friends, and he became an important part of pop culture, which he continues to be a part of to this day. Matthew previously revealed for the first time that he was “close to dying” from past drug addiction. The actor was recently spotted enjoying pickleball with friends in Los Angeles on Thursday afternoon, looking healthy and happy while working up a sweat.
The “Friends” star wore white basketball shorts with red trim, a navy blue polo shirt, and black sneakers with white socks. He wore sunglasses for the activity and kept them on for the ride home. Perry stated earlier this week that he nearly died four years ago when his colon burst from opioid overuse.
Speaking openly about his terrible ordeal, the now-sober star revealed that he spent two weeks in a coma, five months in the hospital, and nine months using a colostomy bag. “The doctors told my family that I had a 2 percent chance to live,” he told People.
I was put on a thing called an ECMO machine, which does all the breathing for your heart and your lungs. And that’s called a Hail Mary. No one survives that.
Perry also revealed to the outlet that he was one of five people on life support that night, and that “the other four” died. “So the big question is why? Why was I the one? There has to be some kind of reason,” he said. The Emmy winner, who has been in rehab 15 times, declined to say when he was most recently clean.
He did, however, share what has aided him in his current state of recovery. The scars from his 14 stomach surgeries, he told the outlet, are “a lot of reminders to be sober.” It’s nice to see him healthy again. To get the latest updates, keep an eye on Thirsty.
