The process of getting sober is not an easy one, and often comes with a plethora of challenges. It now seems that for some, one of the challenges can be the financial cost of getting sober.
In a recent interview with The New York Times, Matthew Perry shared the details of his struggle with addiction. Among other things, the Friends star revealed the staggering amount of money he spent trying to get sober.
I’ve probably spent $9 million or something trying to get sober.
Perry, who revealed that his battle with addiction has lasted decades, shared that it all began when he had his first drink at the age of 14. Things quickly snowballed and Perry found himself addicted to opioids.
A chilling detail that Perry shared was that “the doctors told [his] family that [he] had a 2 percent chance to live.” Back in 2019, Perry had suffered a critical health scare.
Perry was even in a coma for two whole weeks, and then had to use a colostomy bag for a year. Thankfully, the actor has not only made a recovery, but is also currently sober.
Our best wishes go out to Matthew Perry, and we hope he continues to thrive.
