October has been Kanye West’s most self-destructive month by a long shot. The rapper is still facing fallout from his anti-Semitic rants about Jewish people. Now, he is losing his foothold in the sports world after having interviews and documentaries withdrawn, as well as being dumped by major sponsors such as Adidas, Balenciaga, and Gap.
Aaron Donald and Jaylen Brown are no longer Donda Sports athletes. The two stars have issued statements stating that they have severed connections with Kanye West due to his anti-Semitic remarks. The NFL and NBA superstars were Kanye West’s flagship sports signings. Today they announced in unison that they are leaving Donda Deports due to Ye’s “hate speech”.
First reported by TMZ Sport, Donald agreed to terms with Ye’s Donda Sports in late May. At the time, he stated that the company’s “whole family atmosphere” persuaded him to join West. Brown quickly followed, joining with Donda Sports later that month. Donda Sports started off hot with two huge names in their respective sports. Now, the organization has zero clients on its athletic roster. Donald released a statement on Tuesday, writing,
“The recent comments and displays of hate and anti-Semitism are the exact opposite of how we choose to live our lives and raise our children. We find them to be irresponsible and go against everything we believe in as a family.”
“As parents and members of society, we felt a responsibility to send a clear message that hateful words and actions have consequences and that we must do better as human beings. We do not feel our beliefs, voices and actions belong anywhere near a space that misrepresents and oppresses people of any background, ethnicity or race.”
Brown, who had signed with Donda Sports on June 2nd of this year, explained why he first announced he would be sticking with Kanye West, only to change his mind one day later. He explained, “In the past 24 hours, I’ve been able to reflect and better understand how my previous statements lack clarity in expressing my stance against recent insensitive public remarks and actions. For that, I apologize.” Brown continued with his statement,
“And in this, I seek to be as clear as possible. I have always, and will always, continue to stand strongly against anti-Semitism, hate speech, misrepresentation, and oppressive rhetoric of any kind.”
“In light of that, after sharing in conversations, I now recognize that there are times when my voice and my position can’t coexist in spaces that don’t correspond with my stance or my values. And for that, I am terminating my association with Donda Sports.”
Along with his recent anti-Semitic sentiments, West claimed that George Floyd was not murdered by police personnel but rather died from fentanyl addiction. Floyd’s surviving family members filed a $250 million lawsuit. Thirsty will continue to monitor the ongoing fallout of Kanye’s latest remarks.
