Kanye West has dug himself a deeper hole in recent weeks with his antisemitic rants, unconvincing claims about race, and his insensitive remarks about the death of George Floyd. His actions have elicited a great deal of criticism, concern, and compassion online, the latter primarily from other controversial figures. Despite the controversy, Antonio Brown continues to support Ye.
Antonio Brown is sticking behind Kanye West, making a lengthy statement defending his choice to stay president of Donda Sports citing his “dedication to freedom of speech, thinking, and opinion.” The NFL receiver, who joined the Donda team earlier this year, also addressed Kanye’s major scandal following many anti-Semitic rants,
“the world’s reactionary and selective outrage at comments in the media made by my brother, Ye, have inflamed and sparked rampant conversation and reflection.”
“The people and brands that have relentlessly profited from Black ideas and Black culture chose to distance themselves at a very specific time: a time that demonstrated their prioritization of certain groups over others.”
“None of us in this world are free of judgment, yet we live in a time where scrutiny and pessimism have driven our dialogues on cultural issues toward diatribes.”
“Sensationalism and groupthink have forced people to not speak their minds and act out in fear rather than love. For these reasons, I stand by my dedication to freedom of speech, thought, and opinion.”
Brown says he decided to speak out because he is against all forms of prejudice and yet he makes it clear that he is on Kanye’s side. The declaration comes after sports players Aaron Donald and Jaylen Brown expressed their displeasure with Ye’s remarks, prompting them to depart Donda Sports.
“I remain committed to bringing new ideas, experiences, and designs to our world I remain in support of the humanity that is Ye.”
Meanwhile, AB has found himself drowning in controversy as well recently and this certainly won’t help. The hot-tempered stars had discovered one another to be like-minded souls, a support that is now in the hottest of waters. It should not be surprising that they are showing support for each other given their prior relationship.
We hope that AB, Kanye, and other celebrities will be held accountable as long as they continue to misinterpret internet free speech as hate speech. You can check out Brown’s social media post defending Kanye’s statements below. Stay tuned to Thirsty for more updates.
