Stephan Bonnar was a bona fide legend of UFC and a former light heavyweight in the UFC, always portraying the underdog through much of his career. He became famous for his tenacity, among other things. Unfortunately, he tragically passed away last week and the world continues to mourn his demise. Even UFC legend Forest Griffin has finally commented on Bonnar’s untimely passing.
On Dec. 24, UFC announced the tragic news of Bonnar’s passing at the age of 45 from heart complications. UFC President Dana White talked about his passing and paid tribute to him after that in a press release.
“Stephan Bonnar was one of the most important fighters to ever compete in the Octagon. His fight with Forrest Griffin changed the sport forever, and he will never be forgotten. The fans loved him, related to him and he always gave them his best. He will be missed.”
Quite a few fighters in the world of combat sports paid tribute to the fallen legend. However, one missing name was certainly Forrest Griffin. He took to Twitter on December 28th and finally commented on the passing of his greatest rival.
“Stephan was a lot of things: He was always the most interesting person in the room, he had the biggest heart and most importantly, he was my friend. I always loved it that people got excited when they found out we were really friends. I’ll always miss you, brother.”
Stephan Bonnar’s contributions to the world of combat sports will never be forgotten. Even now, fans and peers alike continue to mourn his demise and that will continue for the foreseeable future.
