Elon Musk is bringing the most radical changes to Twitter. While the social media platform is a much different place than it used to be, the same also goes for the Twitter offices. Musk is trying to balance cost-cutting and productivity, but the results are comical so far.

The Twitter CEO fired the janitorial staff at Twitter’s San Francisco headquarters earlier this month, as per NBC News. Obviously, this is not going to boost morale, and a report from The New York Times revealed that both the SF HQ and Seattle office are grossing employees out.

The smell of leftover takeout food and body odor has lingered on the floors … bathrooms have grown dirty. [Some] workers have resorted to bringing their own rolls of toilet paper from home.

The Janitorial Staff was given no warning prior to being locked out of the company. This was after they’d approached the management for better wages before the holidays. The company also ended a cleaning contract.

One of the janitors, Julio Alvarado, spoke to BBC and gave his account of getting fired. The janitor worked at Twitter for a decade, and Elon Musk’s team told him that eventually, robots are going to replace all janitors.

We’re not sure what kind of strategy Elon Musk follows with actions like this. While the janitors are in a big financial mess because of losing their jobs, Twitter employees are also suffering from the intolerable environment in their offices. It remains to be seen what Elon Musk will do next in the name of cost-cutting.
