Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson is undoubtedly one of the biggest names in pro wrestling as well as in Hollywood. The Rock’s accomplishments as a pro wrestler as well as an actor are without equal. However, his most recent ventures in Hollywood haven’t been the most successful, which led to a lot of criticism. His failure of ‘Black Adam’ is something that will hang over his head for a long time. In fact, his crazy demands were responsible for souring his relationship with Warner Bros.
The Rock was very enthusiastic about portraying the role of Black Adam, which was something he really wanted to do since 2007. Following its release, The Rock touted the film’s success during its initial stages.
Things soon turned awry, as ‘Black Adam’ earned only $389 million worldwide, and it was not the commercial success The Rock claimed. In fact, he ended up unfollowing both the Black Adam and Warner Bros.
According to Variety, The Rock, along with Black Adam producers Hiram Garcia and Beau Flynn, “ruffled feathers” after they “went around everyone” to pitch CEO David Zaslav on their vision for Black Adam, Henry Cavill’s Superman, and DC.
A lot more led to Johnson’s relationship with Warner Bros growing sour. This included tacked on expenses to Black Adam’s production, including Johnson demanding a tequila bar featuring his brand, Teremana, be set up for the film’s premiere.
Regarding to Johnson’s expectations at DC, one of Variety’s sources added, “His demands increased and the returns just weren’t there.”
The Rock was also seemingly responsible for Henry Cavill leaving his role as Superman in the DCEU. We’ll see if Rock continues to do superhero films in the future, as it seems unlikely for the time being.
