Damar Hamlin is going through the most challenging time in his life. The Buffalo Bills safety recently experienced cardiac arrest on the field during Monday night’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals. Damar Hamlin continues to make huge improvements. The Bills’ safety is now breathing without mechanical assistance, and he’s even communicating with his family.
The Bills recently issued an update on Damar Hamlin’s condition. “Per the physicians at UCMC, Damar’s breathing tube was removed overnight. He continues to progress remarkably in his recovery.” Hamlin needed a breathing tube to get oxygen since going into cardiac arrest.
Most recently, two of Damar Hamlin’s physicians said that he had been conversing with them via writing. He had even asked who won the Monday Night Football game between his Bills and the Bengals. The doctors also stated that Hamlin had made “significant progress” and was “neurologically intact,” allaying concerns that Damar’s brain had been damaged by a lack of oxygen.
A blessing: The breathing tube is out of Damar Hamlin as of this morning and he has begun talking to Buffalo Bills teammates again. Hamlin has had a breathing tube in body through his throat since Monday night, but no longer needs it and can breathe fully on his own.
According to TMZ, Damar Hamlin also virtually joined the Bills’ team meeting through FaceTime, and was able to offer a unique greeting to his teammates: “Love you, lads.” Despite Damar Hamlin’s progress, the incident continues to haunt his teammates.
The incident is replaying in his head “over and over,” according to star quarterback Josh Allen. The NFL has since announced that the Bills-Bengals game will not be rescheduled and that the AFC Championship game might now be played at a neutral venue.
