50 Cent Finally Explains ‘It’s Your Birthday’ Lyric From ‘In Da Club’

50 Cent remains one of the most influential rappers in the history of the hip-hop world. The legendary made a name for himself in several mediums such as games, movies, books and more. That being said, sometimes Fif makes songs that may not always make sense to his fans. Fans of the rapper know just how instrumental ‘In Da Club’ was for his career and it seems he finally decided to explain a key lyric from the song.

Following his breakout 2003 single “In da Club,” 50 Cent went on to become one of the most established and beloved rappers of all time. The 20th anniversary of the hit song is almost upon us and fans are certainly excited.

While speaking with Real 92.3, 50 Cent was asked what inspired him to start the track with the iconic line, “Go shorty, it’s ya birthday.” The rapper then revealed that they were simply the lyrics that first came to his mind.

It’s just the first thing that came to mind. Like when you think of the nightclub…Even the ladies, right? When y’all go to the nightclub…when you go with your girlfriend and it’s her birthday you go with intentions to have a good time regardless to who’s there.”

The song is featured on 50 Cent’s debut album Get Rich or Die Tryin’, with the music video showing the rapper partying at the club and infamously doing hanging sit-ups at the gym. Eminem and Dr. Dre were also part of the video and added to the overall vibes.

The album and hit single earned the Fif numerous Grammy nominations, with 50 Cent considered for Best Rap Song, Best Male Rap Solo Performance, Best Rap Song, and Best New Artist in 2004. The song’s impact on his career will never be lost on him or his fans and that’s all that matters.
