Alec Baldwin made headlines last year for all the wrong reasons after accidentally shooting a crew member. However, his wife, Hilaria Baldwin has recently surpassed a million Instagram followers but some people aren’t really pleased with how it happened.
The yoga instructor’s husband literally begged fans to follow his wife on Instagram, in posts leading up to her 39th birthday on January 6. This has drawn criticism from some social media users, who labeled him “shallow.”
“One million followers is what’s important on a birthday?? Give me a break,” wrote one user in the comments.
“Is that really important in life?” another troll asked.
Alec shared five different posts on his feed begging fans to increase Hilaria’s follower count. However, fans were confused about why Alec felt the need to do so.
“No disrespect but could you please explain why this was so important?” one curious fan wrote, while others wrote things like “Could you be any more shallow,” “Get a grip” and “Really? I’m almost embarrassed for you for even asking !! How shallow.”
Fans immediately started criticizing Alec when he posted a selfie video on Thursday with the message, “I would like as many of you as possible, I would like a really great, great surge of people to follow my wife on Instagram to say ‘happy birthday’ to my wife.”
Not just Hilaria’s husband, but her 9-year-old daughter also helped her mom reach the follower count. “Follow my mom on Instagram — please, and thank you,” she requested in a video posted to Alec’s account.
Fans are still wondering why the entire family did this. Although having a million Instagram followers is fantastic, it is definitely not a great gift for a birthday. Stay tuned to Thirsty to get the latest updates.
