Khabib Nurmagomedov Hints At Leaving MMA For Good

Khabib Nurmagomedov will forever be considered one of the best UFC fighters to have competed in the MMA world. He ended his MMA career for good back in 2020 and since then has been enjoying his life in retirement. Khabib also admitted he could never be on Mike Tyson’s level. Following his retirement from active competition, Khabib focused on being a coach and running his own MMA promotion. Now it seems Khabib hinted at leaving MMA for good.

There was a lot of speculation regarding his return to the UFC as he was still undefeated, with many believing he would come back to make his record an impressive 30-0. However, Dana White had confirmed he was truly done with competition.

After multiple reports from Russian news outlets, Khabib Nurmagomedov took to his Instagram and shared a post from Za Khabiba, which focused on Khabib’s news. The post displayed a picture of Khabib with a caption that hinted at him leaving MMA for good, especially with his coaching career.

“Khabib is leaving the MMA industry. It’s about coaching and everything else related to MMA. The reason is Khabib’s desire to devote more time to his family.”

While the Russian fighter did not directly say he would step away from coaching altogether, he cryptically alluded to a “decision” he made to his team earlier this week.

“Concluding the year,” Nurmagomedov wrote in Russian. “Take care brothers. The year certainly turned out to be a very busy and successful. I hope my decision is only for the best, a big hug to you all. Thank you. You were a big reason for my success in sports.”

MMA fighter Shamil Zavurov, one of Nurmagomedov’s closest friends and confidants, also alluded to Nurmagomedov’s departure from the MMA world recently, on an Instagram post.

“He’s left this sport, but the sport spirit will never leave him,” Zavurov wrote. “That was good training.”

Khabib had previously stated that he has no interest in continuing his career for money fights. Khabib is ultimately a family man and it seems he decided he wanted to spend more time with them and that is all that matters.
