Dr. Dre is apparently in the process of selling off some of his music assets for a substantial sum of over $200 million.
According a report from Billboard, the artist is in talks for two separate deals, one with Shamrock Holdings and another with Universal Music Group.
The deal with Shamrock Holdings would involve the sale of artist royalties from two of Dr. Dre’s solo albums, his share of N.W.A artist royalties, and his producer and writer royalties for music where he doesn’t own publishing rights.
The deal with Universal Music Group would include the master recording of his first solo album, “The Chronic,” as well as his share of some Kendrick Lamar music.
It’s worth noting that Dr. Dre is not selling off all of his music and these transactions are reported to be mostly “passive income streams” that generate around $10 million annually.
Also, Dr. Dre is not selling his ownership stake in his Aftermath record label. Sources close to Dr. Dre said the actual selling price is actually tens of millions of dollars higher than the $200 million figure being reported by Billboard.
