Khabib Nurmagomedov will always be hailed as one of the best UFC fighters to have competed in the MMA world. His MMA career ended back in 2020 and since then has been enjoying his life in retirement. After he stopped being an active MMA competitor, Khabib focused on being a coach and running his own MMA promotion. However, he is taking time off and this made fans wonder why. Now it seems the reason for his time off has been revealed.
There was a lot of speculation when it came to his return to the UFC as he was still undefeated, with many believing he would come back to make his record an impressive 30-0. However, Dana White had confirmed he was truly done with competition.
Earlier this week, the Russian legend hinted at leaving the world of MMA for good following his retirement. Unsurprisingly, this made fans wonder whether Khabib truly planned on leaving.
After becoming a coach, Khabib Nurmagomedov has overseen Islam Makhachev and Usman Nurmagomedov capturing the UFC and Bellator lightweight titles, respectively. While speaking during an interview, Usman Nurmagomedov revealed that his cousin is taking time off after all of his recent travels with his fighters.
“We will still train. We will be training together when in Dagestan. Nothing changes like that, we’re brothers…I don’t think he can stop, he will still control me and my brother, some other guys, but not the same [way]. He doesn’t want to travel, doesn’t want to come to camps and stay with us for a couple of months…That’s why he make the decision, I’m happy for him.”
We are certainly glad to know that The Eagle will not be stepping away from the MMA world and will just be taking a much-needed break. It remains to be seen when Khabib will return to his coaching duties.
