Vince McMahon made headlines last year when he was implicated in a hush-money scandal. The pro-wrestling community had no idea what was going to happen right after that. However, McMahon made a surprise return and quickly climbed the ranks, first joining the Board of Directors, and then becoming the Executive Chairman. It seems he has been accused of blackmailing his way back into WWE.
Vince McMahon’s return to the Board of Directors was more or less compared to a hostile takeover as McMahon was absolutely ruthless in his endeavour for control. He was appointed as the Executive Chairman of WWE after Stephanie McMahon resigned, leaving Nick Khan as the sole CEO.
This news disappointed fans to no end as they expressed concerns about McMahon’s return to the position of Chairman. Even then, McMahon will do whatever he wants to do in the end.
While speaking on Smack Talk, pro wrestling veteran Dutch Mantell talked about Vince McMahon’s shocking return to WWE. Mantell then proceeded to accuse McMahon of blackmailing his way back into WWE.
People who think Vince McMahon went home and was playing checkers and enjoying his retirement are totally, totally wrong. But I’m thinking, Vince went home and indulged in his favorite hobby, work. He was on that phone, working every day, talking to lawyers because he didn’t like the way he had to leave. He’s p*ssed off. To me, Saudi Arabia was the perfect partner from the beginning. They got the money, they got $620 billion dollars.
So, they know each other. They are familiar with each other. So, he just worked on getting himself back in and basically what Vince did. He blackmailed them. He says you can’t make any deal at all. Unless I vote it, I vote the way you want me to vote and I’m not voting anything until I’m back in there. So, they had no choice to reinstate him I guess.
Vince McMahon’s return to WWE has also been compared to that of Walt Disney in a huge way. He was also hit with a lawsuit by one of WWE’s shareholders for good reason. We’ll have to see if McMahon will gain complete control of WWE in the near future.
