Tom Cruise has established himself as one of Hollywood’s most sought-after stars. The much-anticipated sequel to Top Gun released last year, as Top Gun: Maverick turned out to be one of the biggest hits of 2022. Due to its massive success, fans started wondering when a third film will be greenlit. It seems there is a good reason why Tom Cruise can’t even focus on making a third Top Gun movie.
Top Gun: Maverick has a total Box Office gross earnings of $1,487,575,965, which puts it in the top 10 highest grossing films of all time. The film was truly the kind of 80s nostalgia trip that fans of the original wanted and even new fans absolutely loved it.
Fans have been clamoring for a third film in the franchise, but they might have to wait a while for that to happen. While speaking to Variety, producer Jerry Bruckheimer was simply asked whether there had been talks about a third film in the franchise.
Jerry Bruckheimer revealed that he had not yet had a talk with Tom Cruise about the possibility of another Top Gun movie. This is because Tom Cruise is putting all of his focus on the latest Mission: Impossible film.
“He’s in the middle of shooting Mission Impossible, he’s got a lot of very difficult, hard stunts he’s doing. It’s not the time to take attention away from what’s important to him right now.”
We certainly hope a third film in the Top Gun gets greenlit, as fans would more than love to see Tom Cruise in the cockpit of a fighter jet yet again. Till then, they will have to play the waiting game.
