Kanye West is regarded as one of the most prolific names in the world of hip-hop, but he is also a proper genius when it comes to business. That being said, West is also one of the most controversial names in the industry and there is a good reason for that. He had disappeared from the public eye for quite a while, but has somewhat reemerged. It seems he changed his number to ghost his former lawyers.
According to Business Insider, Kanye West changed the phone number he used to communicate with his lawyers. Due to this, lawyers have been unable to contact the rapper, effectively getting ghosted.
According to court filings, the lawyers are asking a judge if they can publish classified advertisements in Los Angeles-based newspapers as a way to contact him somehow.
West is being sued by a recording label that claims he stole a song sample on his latest album. Right now he is at risk of losing the case through default judgment. West’s former lawyers at Greenberg Traurig explained their predicament in a court filing Friday.
GT also tried to contact Ye directly via the last known cell phone number GT had to arrange for personal service,” the lawyers at Greenberg Traurig wrote in the filing. “This was also unsuccessful, as Ye has apparently deactivated the phone number previously used to contact him.
This is unfortunate timing as US District Judge Analisa Torres, who is presiding over the case in a federal court in Manhattan, had ordered both sides to prepare for a trial after they failed to reach a settlement.
