The world of professional MMA is a cruel and cold one, where almost no one looks out for each other and one injury could spell the end of a fighter’s career. UFC fighter Rafael Fiziev knows that all too well. However, it seems he has been accused of not paying rent before one of the biggest fights of his career.
Rafael Fiziev is preparing to face Justin Gaethje in the co-main event of UFC 286, scheduled for Saturday, March 18. The Azerbaijani fighter has been on a six-fight winning streak and boasts a professional record of 12 wins and one loss.
His sole loss came at the hands of Magomed Mustafaev. Ahead of his career-defining fight against Justin Gaethje, an MMA and Muay Thai gym in Thailand took to Twitter and accused Fiziev of not paying three months worth of rent.
#PayYourRent Fiziev owes 3 months rent for over 3 years to Thai house owner. Has written to them saying he would pay multiple times, but never has. Doesn’t dispute owing rent just doesn’t want want to pay it.
@Justin_Gaethje please collect the rent
The comments were made in response to a tweet by UFC lightweight Renato Moicano, in which he expressed surprise at Rafael Fiziev being considered the underdog in his upcoming fight. Moicano stated that “there’s no way he will lose.”
After Phuket Top Team made the allegations, Moicano responded by asking them if it was real. The gym in Thailand made it clear that it was legitimate and they had the legal documentation to prove it.
“100% Paperwork & messages to prove it. But in the end all they want was the 3 months rent.”
It is certainly a shame that someone like Rafael Fiziev would intentionally not pay three months’ worth of rent to the Thai gym. We certainly hope the gym will get their compensation as soon as possible.
