Michael Jackson is regarded as one of the most influential cultural figures of the 20th century. His contributions to dance, fashion, music, and his publicized personal life over the course of a four-decade career elevated him to a universally recognized figure in popular culture. However, according to reports, the King Of Pop’s new biopic is in the works with its principal photography beginning in 2023.
Jackson’s biopic, ‘Michael’, will be directed by Antoine Fuqua, who is well-known for his work on The Equalizer movies and Training Day. The co-executors of the Michael Jackson estate John Branca and John McClain are working as producers with Graham King, who also worked on Bohemian Rhapsody. John Logan, the author of Gladiator, penned the script.
“The first films of my career were music videos, and I still feel that combining film and music are a deep part of who I am.
For me, there is no artist with the power, the charisma, and the sheer musical genius of Michael Jackson. I was influenced to make music videos by watching his work – the first Black artist to play in heavy rotation on MTV. His music and those images are part of my worldview, and the chance to tell his story on the screen alongside his music was irresistible.”
According to Lionsgate, the film will “give audiences the never-before-told and in-depth portrayal of the complicated man who became the King of Pop. The film will explore all aspects of Michael’s life, including his most iconic performances that led him to become the greatest entertainer of all time.”
Michael Jackson’s legacy is unmatched in the entertainment industry and elsewhere. It remains to be seen how well the movie ultimately turns out to be. Until then, stay tuned to Thirsty to get the latest updates.
