Kim Kardashian Receives Backlash For Buying Princess Diana’s Cross

Kim Kardashian is a style icon and a trendsetter in many different ways. But sometimes she goes too far in an effort to become an icon, which leads to fan trolls. For instance, fans didn’t really appreciate her when she borrowed Marilyn Monroe’s dress for the 2022 Met Gala. Similarly, she is now getting trolled for buying Princess Diana’s cross.

Sotheby’s revealed on Wednesday that the television personality had paid $197,453 for the amethyst cross necklace that Princess Diana wore exclusively. After her passing, the piece “was never seen in public again until now.”

Unsurprisingly, the news was poorly received online, where people haven’t forgiven Kim for wearing Marilyn Monroe’s outfit for the 2022 Met Gala.

“She’s really trying to traumatize the ghosts of iconic women,” one user trolled, while another tweeted, “thinking about kim k’s dedication to latching onto the already existing fashion legacies of dead people.”

Vivicca A. Whitsett, an actress, and comedian, wrote, “Lord she really thinks purchasing s—t is going to make her ‘adjacent-to’ …her thirst is real ya’ll…her thirst is real.” Royal admirers were even more offended by Kardashian’s purchase.

“Diana has been exploited ENOUGH and for Kimberly to go out of her way to purchase something that should be in a museum is quite sickening and not in a good way,” one user wrote angrily. “This necklace should’ve gone to one of diana’s granddaughters,” wrote another.

Users continued to speculate about which priceless piece of fashion history Kardashian might acquire next, suggesting pop stars, “Housewives,” former heads of state, and religious leaders as potential celebrities.

Kim has a track record of making super-expensive purchases. For instance, she spent $379,500 on Jackie Kennedy’s Cartier watch in 2017, $25,000 on Janet Jackson’s outfit from the “If” music video in 2021, and $65,625 on a Michael Jackson jacket in 2019 that she later gave to her daughter North.
