The Undertaker dedicated three decades to entertaining fans and cementing his status as a living legend. His impact on the pro wrestling industry is unmatched and his influence will be felt for generations to come. He was part of many iconic Hell In A Cell matches and went off-script in a big way during one of them.
The Deadman, a professional wrestler, was a mainstay on WWE television for more than 30 years and was a consistent fan favorite since the early 90s. He officially retired from in-ring competition at Survivor Series 2020, and was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2021 as a testament to his enduring legacy in the industry.
At the WWE King of the Ring 1998 pay-per-view, The Undertaker squared off against Mick Foley. During one instance of the match, Terry Funk’s shoes flew off after he ate a chokeslam from The Undertaker.
The Phenom appeared during a recent episode of Complex’s sneaker shopping series. The Deadman revealed that he was not originally supposed to attack Funk at all.
“It’s just one of those things that happened. Obviously everyone was really concerned for Mankind going through there [the cell]. He was inches away from probably not getting up from that, so that’s why that all just happened [unplanned].
I don’t know what kind of shape Mick’s in, right?” The Undertaker continued. “But then again you just can’t stand there and look around, so there’s a wrestler in the ring, somebody’s gotta get it! Somebody’s gonna get Chokeslammed, and Terry Funk, he was the recipient. Up he went and there’s the shoe. It’s funny that something the stature of that match, what an iconic moment of Terry Funk losing his shoe to a Chokeslam!”
The Undertaker will forever be remembered for all he has done for the pro wrestling business. He is currently enjoying his retirement, even buying sneakers for himself.
The Deadman is also set to appear on this week’s episode of Monday Night RAW, which will be the 30th anniversary of the show. It remains to be seen how his appearance will turn out during the show.
