The popular Tomb Raider games inspired a slew of hit movies that have been loved by audiences all over the world. Following the box-office successes of all three films, it appears that Amazon Studios has even bigger plans for the franchise, as both a feature film and television series are currently in development.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Emmy Award-winning artist Phoebe Waller-Bridge is currently working on a new upcoming live-action television series based on the franchise. Besides this, they also reported that Amazon has plans to produce a new “Tomb Raider” feature film that would link with the upcoming TV series.
According to reports, Waller-Bridge’s upcoming television program is still in the initial stages of development and is a component of her recently extended contract with Amazon. She is currently signed to executive produce and write the show. Waller-Bridge, however, is reportedly not in the run to portray the iconic Lara Croft in the upcoming TV adaptation of the hugely successful video game series.
However, Waller-Bridge will continue Indiana Jones’ adventures with Harrison Ford in the upcoming sequel, “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny,” which will be released later in July. Tomb Raider, which started out as a video game, was turned into a movie in 2001 named Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, which starred Angelina Jolie as the adventurer archaeologist Lara Croft.
Waller-Bridge is working together with former Amazon Head of Comedy and Drama Ryan Andolina and former Head of Overall Deals Amanda Greenblatt on the TV project. Recently, Andolina and Greenblatt established their own production business, which has a partnership with Amazon.
It is indeed wonderful news for all of the “Tomb Raider” fans. Now, it remains to be seen if the new film also succeeds at the box office like the previous ones. Thirsty For News will keep you updated.
